A pinched nerve is when there is an application of pressure directly on the nerve or when the nerve is compressed. This can cause a disruption in the nerve functions, as well as irritation to the person. A common example of compressed nerves or pinched nerves is the numbing of the hand or foot.

The common causes of pinched nerves are arthritis, stenosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, injury, bruises, pregnancy-related swelling, and joint diseases.

When you have this condition, you will experience numbness, a tingling or prickling sensation such as pins and needles, and weakness or pain coming from the affected area. Most of these cases are just temporary and will right themselves after a while. If you slept on your arm or hand for a long time, there will be minor tingling sensations on your hand when you wake up. This will eventually go away even if left untreated. However, in serious or chronic cases, treatment should be done and overseen by a physician.

Treatment of a chronic or complicated case of pinched nerves should follow after a correct diagnosis of a nerve compression. What should be done is to remove the compression or constriction to make room for the nerve. Any inflammation that may have developed around it can be treated when the bone spurs are removed.

Therapy, massages, acupuncture, or going to a chiropractor may help treat chronic pinched nerves. This is your first line of treatment since most cases do not really need one. Next is pain medication. This is to treat any symptomatic pain caused by nerve compression. Pain or weakness will usually go away after taking drug medication.

It will also help to have injections. A cortisone injection can help shrink tissues that become swollen because of nerve compression. Your last option is surgery. It should be the last resort and should only be used on the most serious and complicated cases. Most physicians just suggest that you rest the body part or area as treatment for this.

Acupuncture has spread around the world since originating in China but conventional western medicine has remained steadfastly skeptical. Although there is now good evidence that acupuncture can relieve pain, many of the other health benefits acupuncturists claim are on shakier ground.

Despite acupuncture’s 4,000-year history, little is known about the biological pathways that enable carefully placed needles to relieve pain in many patients. While controversy remains surrounding acupuncture, in certain quarters, researchers have determined the compound adenosine is key to acupuncture’s effectiveness. In a paper published in Nature neuroscience, researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center identified the molecule adenosine as a central player in parlaying some of the effects of acupuncture in the body.

This study focused on determining the effects of acupuncture on the peripheral nervous system, the nerves in our bodies that aren’t a part of the central nervous system-the spinal cord and brain.

It’s cause quite a stir across the internet. The argument against the study’s validity, according to the non-believers is the results are attributed to the ” placebo effect.” But they are misinformed-the placebo effect is present in humans, not animals. It is the effect of the mind’s belief that a treatment will work.

The latest research gives doctors a sound explanation of how sticking needles into the skin can alleviate, rather than exacerbate, pain. The discovery will challenge the view, widely held among scientists, that any benefits a patient feels after acupuncture are due purely to the placebo effect.

The research contributes to a multitude of studies that have demonstrated acupuncture’s ability to trigger signals, that stimulates the brain to release natural pain-killing endorphins.

The research focuses on adenosine, a neurotransmitter known for its role in regulating sleep, for its effects on the heart, and for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as a natural painkiller, becoming active in the skin after an injury to inhibit nerve signals and ease pain.

The scientists gave each mouse a sore paw by injecting it with an inflammatory chemical. The researchers performed acupuncture treatments on mice with discomfort in one paw. The mice each received a 30-minute acupuncture treatment at a well known acupuncture point near the knee, with very fine needles rotated gently every five minutes, similar to the way humans are treated with acupuncture. The scientists recorded how quickly each mouse pulled its sore paw away from a small bristly brush. The more pain the mice were in, the faster they pulled away.

The levels of adenosine in the tissue adjacent to the needle, rose 24-fold in the tissue fluid surrounding the needle.

Researchers mimicked acupuncture in mice by placing and gradually rotating a needle at a point just below the knee, for 30 minutes. The mice injected with an inflammatory substance in their paws and given acupuncture displayed fewer pain symptoms than mice that didn’t get acupuncture.

Half of the mice lacked a gene that is needed to make adenosine receptors, which are found on major nerves. But those that were genetically engineered, lacking certain adenosine receptors failed to experience any benefit from the acupuncture, additional proof of adenosine’s role. Also enzymes that block adenosine’s break down enhanced acupuncture’s effectiveness, tripling the level of adenosine near the needle and extending pain relief from about one hour to about three hours.

If you are experiencing back pain, you probably have tried many ways to alleviate the pain and discomfort. However, if you still haven't found something that works for your type of pain, you may want to consider a very ancient treatment that is still widely used today: acupuncture. This process is tried and true, having been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. People have been known to use acupuncture for everything ranging from fertility issues to weight loss.

If you are one of the many sufferers of back pain, it is likely you have tried multiple remedies to get some relief. If you haven’t yet found a treatment that really works, it may be time to take another avenue – an ancient one known as acupuncture. This process is tried and true, having been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture helps with many ailments, from smoking cessation to headaches to back pain.

The theory behind acupuncture is to focus on the body’s energy or chi, which runs throughout the body in lines that are called meridians. When we are ill, including suffering from back pain, an energy pathway is blocked. The blockage then causes toxins to build-up within the body due to a decreased blood flow and stagnation of various tissues. With the insertion of very thin needles, it is believed that acupuncture will unblock the pathways so that blood and energy can flow freely.

The meridians are traced by acupuncturists through the use of maps so they can effectively place the needles in strategic locations to help the flow of energy to be restored. Through the restoration of your chi, your back pain will be eliminated. The muscles of the back will unknot and the spasms will calm down.

You should research the person you plan to consult for acupuncture and be sure that they are a licensed practitioner. Tell him or her about your back pain history and any medications that you are using, as well as any allergies. The acupuncturist should inform you ahead of time about any risks associated with the proposed procedures, such as a slight chance of bleeding or pain at the site of the needle insertion.

You will be lying down on a comfortable table while the acupuncturist works, and you will be given a gown or towels to cover you modestly. You should alert your acupuncturist if you experience any pain during the procedure. However, it is common that people feel nothing while undergoing acupuncture.

Many patients say that they feel the renewed energy after the very first treatment, however, it is not uncommon for it to take a few sessions before you feel full relief. If you are experiencing intense pain, your acupuncturist may apply heat to the area prior to the needle application to intensify your treatment and results.

While acupuncture is still considered an alternative therapy in the Western world, it is becoming increasingly popular for a variety of ailments. If you have become frustrated by the lack of results you’ve experience from more traditional treatments, acupuncture may be the best solution to your back pain.

Just about everyone suffers from back pain, whether it’s an isolated incident or an ongoing condition. Among the best ways to manage the condition is through the use of back stretching machines.

Suffering from back pain can be really terrible and affect every aspect of life. It is one of the most common reasons for people to take time off from work. If you are searching for a natural way to feel better, acupuncture for back pain relief is an option which many people find helpful.

Back pain can be caused by many different things. There could be an underlying disease such as scoliosis, osteoporosis or sciatica. It is common for people who have an injury to the back to be in pain for many years afterwards. This is often because the injury and subsequent period of pain have caused longer term problems such as nerve inflammation. Those of us who have jobs and lifestyles which entail spending the majority of time sitting are more prone to pain in the back. This is due to the weakening of muscles which adds strain to the spinal column.

If you have been researching back pain then you will be aware that there are many different treatments. Depending on the cause different treatments will be appropriate for you. Some of the current interventions have unwanted side effects such as medications. There are natural treatments such as massage and physiotherapy and acupuncture which do not have side effects.

Acupuncture has played a major role in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It can be used to treat all kinds of disorders and health problems. It is well known as a painkiller with powerful properties. In China some people undergo surgery using acupuncture as an anesthetic. For back pain sometimes acupuncture can help with the underlying problem but if it cannot then it can help with the pain symptoms.

If you decide to try acupuncture the treatment will most likely involve using needles to stimulate acupuncture points. Most patients report that it is not painful but there is a strange sensation. If you are afraid of needles it is possible to do some types of acupuncture without them. The acupuncture points are places on the pathways of energy in the body. In Chinese medicine blockages of energy cause pain and illness and acupuncture helps the energy to flow again and the body to heal.

Acupuncture can help back pain in a number of ways. During the therapy neurotransmitters and endorphins are released. Endorphins are a natural pain killer and are powerful and so patients often feel better quite quickly. The theory of acupuncture states that it also supports the body to heal itself. In this way if you have muscle damage, for example the treatment will encourage energy flow in that area and the body should begin to heal the muscle.

Taking care of your back is extremely important as it can affect so many aspects of your health. A good way to keep it healthy is with exercise to promote strength and flexibility. All movement is good as it strengthens the muscles but there are some exercises which work the core muscles such as Pilates which are particularly effective. You should also take care when lifting and moving heavy objects and always bend from the knees.

Try acupuncture for back pain relief. It is a natural therapy without side effects and has been successful in helping many people.

If you are looking for natural help without side effects, then acupuncture treatment is perfect. More info now in our exclusive acupuncture back pain guide.

Failed back surgery syndrome (also called FBSS) is a very generalized term that is often used to describe the condition of patients who have not had a successful result with traditional back surgery or spine surgery. There are many reasons that a traditional surgery may or may not work, and even with the best surgeon and for the best indications, spine surgery is no more predictive of a successful result. Spinal surgery is only basically able to accomplish two things: Decompressing a nerve root that is pinched, or stabilizing a painful joint

Many patients do not get this result. Unfortunately, back surgery does not cut out the patient’s pain. Surgery changes the anatomy of the body or the anatomy of the injury and the probable cause of the pain. By far the the initial effect of the surgery is not effective is that the area operated on is not the main cause of the pain!

Therefore the best way to avoid FBSS is to try conservative treatment and procedures. Conservative procedures have a higher degree of success and prevent the traditional back surgery. Spinal Decompression may be the answer you are looking for you back pain rather than traditional surgery!

In addition think about the pros and cons BEFORE agreeing to traditional Spinal Surgery. Several other potential causes of a failed surgery, or continued pain after surgery they are: Fusion surgery considerations -such as failure to fuse and/or implant failure, or a transfer lesion to another level after a spine fusion, when the next level degenerates and becomes a pain generator.

Lumbar Decompression Back Surgery candidates must know is the recurrent stenosis or disc herniation, inadequate decompression of a nerve root or preoperative damage that does not heal after the surgery or nerve damage during or after the surgery. Scar tissue is a factor as well as the post-op rehab that a patient undergoes with continued pain from traditional surgery.

Considering the risks and poor success rate of traditional spinal surgery, Spinal Decompression may be a safer, better alternative. Check with a Chiropractic decompression specialist about your condition and the benefits of this procedure

Ancient people have used massage well before the introduction of modern medicine, well before surgery, drugs or needles. People used massage to heal their aliments.

Massage is the a basic instinct that people used as a natural remedies. This basis need to touch is comparable to our innate fight or flight instinct. Health practitioners believe that massage has powerful healing properties no matter how soft or deep.

Massage has developed greatly over time! There are in fact many different types of massage techniques but we have listed four of the most commonly used methods from our own office experience.

SWEDISH MASSAGE works the whole body using a tapping, soothing and kneading strokes to relieve tension and heal sore joints. Swedish massage is superficial and have basic strokes; effleurage or stroking; petrissage or muscle lifting and grabbing; friction or use of fingers and thumbs working the deep thick muscles; tapotement or chopping tapping or beating movements; and vibration for finger pressed firmly on the muscles, then the area is stimulated quickly for several seconds. The effleurage and tapoement strokes are the most popular.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE works deeper than a Swedish massage, working past the couple of layers that Swedish massage does. The slow deep strokes and pressure from the deep muscle techniques work across the grain of the muscle. therapist use their fingers thumbs and arms to apply the pressure to help release the muscle tension and spasm from injuries.

SPORTS MASSAGE was developed to help people train better and recover quicker. If you are a world class athelete or just a weekend warrior this massage may be best for you. This massage is like a Swedish and Deep tissue massage using both strokes to help the athlete. Pre-race massage warms the muscles and increases circulation. After a game or race, this massage helps rid of toxin build up in the body and quicken the recovery time.

NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE is a form of deep tissue massage that is applied to individual specific muscle group’s muscles. It is used to increase blood flow, reduce pain and release pressure on nerves caused by injuries to muscles and other soft tissue. Neuromuscular massage helps release trigger points, and muscular adhesions (areas which form due to micro traumas) and can also “refer” pain to other parts of the body. Relieving a tense adhesion or trigger point area in your back, for example, could help ease pain in your neck, shoulders, low back, etc. This technique is especially beneficial when used with spinal manipulation and adjunct forms of physical therapy.

Among the typical areas for experiencing pain, the low back is a very common one. There are those people who think it is just part of aging and has to be accepted. However, this is not true. A St. Paul acupuncture pain specialist can help to relieve low back pain.

Low back pain can crop up for a variety of reasons. As a medical professional, your acupuncturist will give you an exam to determine where yours is coming from and what treatment will work best. Relief of pain is a well-proven reason for getting acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture is a holistic medicine so, in addition to physically examining you, the acupuncturist will ask you a lot of questions about your overall health and lifestyle. This gives a more accurate picture of how you arrived at how you feel today. It also helps to point out areas that may benefit from modification to help relieve your pain and keep it from returning.

Many times, you will start feeling relief after just one treatment. However, you will probably need a series of treatments for the pain to go away completely and for the underlying issue to be resolved. Generally speaking, the underlying condition took a while to form, even you just notice it one morning upon getting out of bed. Therefore, it will take a bit of time to fully heal as well.

As a preventative medicine, acupuncture has a goal of keeping you from experiencing the pain in the future. To help in this regard, you will need to do your part. The more you adhere to the advice of your acupuncturist regarding lifestyle changes, for example, the likelier that your health will improve overall.

Many acupuncturists are specialists in relieving pain of all kinds. When your back starts giving you trouble, this is not just part of the aging process. There are people who live to be elderly without chronic pain problems. You can too by visiting a specialist in St. Paul acupuncture.

A St. Paul acupuncture specialist can help alleviate back, neck and shoulder pain in an instant. More info now on http://www.handw.net/

Anyone wanting Danville acupuncture or acupressure to relieve chronic pain will find expert chiropractic treatment at the Anatomy Power Holistic Health Center in Danville, California. The professionals at this center practice non-invasive, drug-free, natural health care that helps the body heal itself.

When you go for treatment at this center, you will be given a physical examination and, if necessary, the chiropractic doctor may order X-rays or lab tests. However, unlike other health care professionals, the chiropractor will conduct an analysis of your structure, especially your spine.

You will need to answer some questions. How much do you exercise? What type of foods do you eat? How many children do you have? How do you deal with stress? The answers to these, and other, questions will enable him or her to diagnose the root cause of your problem. The objective is to tackle the cause, not to only treat the painful symptoms.

Take a hypothetical case. Say you suffer with severe migraines that are a result of an irritated nerve or a vertebra that has moved out of position. Do you want it corrected so that your migraines will be a thing of the past, or are you just going to carry on dosing yourself with painkillers? Obviously, you want the cause to be treated.

The chiropractic physician may suggest that you have a course of acupuncture therapy. At Anatomy Power, the treatments take place in a clean and safe environment. Acupuncture has numerous health benefits. The treatment involves the placement of very slim needles in strategic points of your body. These are known as acupoints.

Alternatively, the physician might recommend the ancient Chinese practice of acupressure. This is very like acupuncture but, instead of needles, the practitioner uses fingers to apply pressure on reactionary points. Acupressure is an excellent way to release blocked energy and restore the natural energy needed to protect the body against illness, while promoting holistic health.

Anyone wanting Danville acupuncture or acupressure to relieve chronic pain will find expert chiropractic treatment at the Anatomy Power Holistic Health Center in Danville, California.

To a lot of us, this would sound a bit oxymoron, but in the real world, a large group of people relief the pain through acupuncture treatments. It is a Chinese treatment therapy which works miracles for all different types of diseases. There is energy like pathways which are named Meridians that flow through your body according to the Chinese belief. When there is a blockage in their path, it results in health issues. They insert needles into the areas which need to be treated, this influences the energy flow through the pathways called Meridans and this releases your pain.

The different uses of Acupuncture:

*	People usually start the Chinese acupuncture treatment so that they can get relief from pain. Recent research shows positive results for people who were treated through acupuncture for post surgery pain and chemo therapy.

* When a patient has lost learning skills due to a stroke, acupuncture helps them rehabilitate and relearn.

* Acupuncture treatment can also cure headaches and migraines.

*	Acupuncture is also very useful for treating patients of Osteoarthritis. In this health issue the cartilage and the tissue breaks down that cushion the joints and recent study also indicates that knee pain can be reduced by acupuncture. It also helps in curing…

*	Asthma patients and tries to ease the inflammation and coughing. It also helps to reduce chest tightness.

*It can help people who have tight chests by reducing the tightness.

If you want proper treatment you should always a professional acupuncturist. All needles used in this type of therapy should be sterilized, if not this could cause serious health issues. Just make sure you discuss all the relevant information and details with your doctor, before you go ahead with the treatment. Your doctor will know what’s best for you.

More about the Meridians

The Chinese medical text mentions that the acupuncture points are located on the twelve meridians, which are the pathways through which energy and bloods flows. To relief and reduce the pain the needles should be inserted into those points, these points have become very stagnant. All the important body organs are connected vertically and symmetrically by all twelve pathways. The organs which are most important in the body are connected internally and if there ever is a blockage in a part, the remaining connected organs and body parts also become affected.

You could say acupuncture is a perfect treatment method, which thin needles get inserted into certain parts of your body which need treatment, leading to reduced pain and improved regulation of your blood pressure.
