For pain relief in the upper body and head, a magnetic necklace is a common choice. A common dilemma, however, among those looking to buy is how to choose one. Here are 3 tips to use when buying magnetic jewelry for your neck.

Whether you’re buying for it pain therapy or for only basic looks, you’ll need to know several things about choosing a magnetic necklace. First, you will want to be familiar with the types of necklaces and how they are designed to be worn. Second, you’ll need to know about the differences in quality. Not just is the quality of the craftsmanship important, but also the strength and quality of the magnets themselves. Lastly, you will want to understand how the differences in magnetic necklaces fits your style.

The right type of necklace – There are a few styles of magnetic necklaces, so you will want to make sure you get the right one for you. First, is the lariat. Lariat necklaces have no clasp, and wrap around your neck using the magnets in them to stay fastened. Lariats, also called “wraps” or “snakes,” are always 36 or 37 inches, and can be worn in numerous different ways around the neck.

They can wrap a full turn, or much less than a full turn around the neck. When worn this way the remainder of the beads hang below the neck, usually with the two sides joined in a straight line. They can wrap more than one full turn around the neck with a remainder, or they can coil around the neck like a collar. They can also be worn around the wrist or ankle, although they will obviously coil more times. Because of their length, these typically have the most magnets of any type of necklace.

Unlike the lariat, the other types of magnetic necklaces are much more like traditional necklaces with a clasp. The difference, of course, is that the clasp is usually magnetic. These necklaces can be made in different sizes, so be sure to get the right size for you. You’ll find these necklaces plain, or with charms that are sometimes magnetic as well. A hematite cross is a popular magnetic charm.

You’ll find both the lariats and the traditional shape magnetic necklaces with or without accent beads. These accents beads can be magnetic hematite beads, or some type of non-magnetic bead. Higher quality necklaces will sport accents such as hematite, freshwater pearls, or semi-precious stones in turquoise, cherry quartz, or agate. These necklaces are more expensive, and also usually have stronger, high quality magnets. Be alert that the better lariats will have as many as 48 higher powered magnets.

Quality – There are two aspects to the quality. The first is the craftsmanship, and the second is the quality of materials used. As I’ve mentioned, high quality necklaces always use higher quality accent beads, and much more powerful magnets. If you’re amused in pain relief, powerful magnets are a must. Watch out for lesser quality products.

A high quality maker of magnetic jewelry will choose stronger magnets, and high quality accents. Look for a craftsperson who creates custom-made designs in magnetic jewelry, rather than one of the mass-produced pieces. These custom pieces will more than likely be using higher powered magnets and materials.

Style – You’ll have to weigh all these differences against your personal style. Some people love the versatility of the lariat, while others prefer a much more traditional look. Some enjoy the elegance and color of semi-precious stones, while others prefer the fresh high-tech look of the polished dark hematite. Cloisonne, lady bugs, and seasonal beads are extremely popular.

If you weren’t familiar with the ins and outs of magnetic necklace buying, I hope this primer has you up to speed. Choosing the right kind of necklace is important, especially for pain relief purposes. You’ll have to decide whether you like the flexibility of the lariat, or the look of the traditional style.

You’ll also want to ensure that your necklace has the quality to last. In addition, you will need it to have the right number of high powered magnets if you’re wearing it for therapy purposes. Once you have got those concerns taken care of, buying to match your style is your key to lengthy lasting enjoyment.

Suffering from back pain? Too scared to go to the doctor? Unfortunately, many people choose to suffer through the pain, due to their fear of undergoing a surgical procedure. They may have heard about the experience from someone who had it done years ago and cringed at those horror stories. However, with the advancement in technology, it is important you learn the correct information about spine surgery and all that it involves.

First, you should know that a spine surgery is only going to be suggested to you should it be necessary. The truth is, a lot of people are surprised that a surgical procedure is not an option. Various conditions within the back region can cause pain, but not all will require surgical treatment in order to alleviate the pain.

Some individuals are more worried about the actual anesthesia than they are the surgery. The wonderful thing about today’s options is that lasers are available. What this means for the patient is small incision and the majority of surgeries using lasers can be done without overnight hospitalization.

As lasers can be used in the procedures, there will also be less risk to those who undergo the procedure. In truth, it is usually the anesthesia that can cause different problems and because this is an outpatient procedure and small incisions are used, local anesthetic may be all that is required. Small incisions will also mean that you get less scarring with this advanced procedure.

Back pain can be one of the worst things to experience. For a lot of people, it will prevent them from enjoying their normal lifestyle. Others may deal with it, but find they get depressed and anxious over their pain. The most important thing you could ever do for yourself is take back control of your life and inquire about whether spine surgery can help you and your own condition.

Overview

Overview

Arthritis is a disease which causes inflammation of the joints. With over 100 different kinds of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of them. It is a chronic disease in which not only the joints, but the tissues around the joints also get inflamed. It is an autoimmune disease wherein the body’s immune system erroneously starts to attack its own body tissues instead of protecting them from outside viruses. RA not only affects the joints, but can affect other organs of the body. This is the reason the rheumatoid arthritis is also called as rheumatoid disease.

Some of the general symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are fatigue, depression and stiffness in the joints in the mornings. The cause of RA is still not known fully, but it primarily affects the peripheral joints.

Studies and Researches

The researches show that RA is thrice as common in women as in men. Daily activities of most of the individuals suffering from RA are affected in some way or the other. Some of the numbers below are astonishing: 1.	Approximately 1% of the world’s total population is affected by rheumatoid arthritis. 2.	After 5 years of having this disease, about 33% of the patients are unable to work and after 10 years about 50% patients have substantial functional disability. 3.	Life expectancy of the patients shortens by 5 to 10 years with RA.

Treatment and Medication

The damage already caused to the joints by rheumatoid arthritis is irreversible. However, if steps are not taken to control further damage, it can lead to more destruction of the affected joints and body parts leading to handicap. Early therapy is the best way to stop the disease from further damage. Weight loss, physiotherapy, joint injections, occupational therapy, exercising, surgery and medication are some of the therapies that are used to treat RA.

There are two objectives of the treatment of RA – to ease the current symptoms and to prevent future damage. It is recommended that RA should be treated with Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug (DMARD) along with a pain reliever. Usually the damage already done to the joint by RA is irreversible. With a combination of DMARDs and analgesics for the treatment, it has been found that DMARDs on one hand produce durable symptomatic remissions and delay or halt progression and on the other hand, the analgesics/anti-inflammatories reduces the pain and stiffness.

Tramadol is a synthetic (man-made) pain reliever which can be combined with DMARD to treat RA. Tramadol is a prescription medication and is said to work like morphine. It is used for treating moderate to moderately severe pain. It is a cheap and effective analgesic.

What is chronic pain? How do you know if you are actually suffering from chronic pain? Chronic pain is characterized as lasting longer than six months. The pain can be mild or severe, it can be continuous or periodic, it can just merely annoying or completely disabling. Chronic pain can start from an injury or trauma or it can be an ongoing cause of pain. Some people can actually suffer from chronic pain from body damage or the absence of a past injury. When chronic pain occurs, the nervous system receives signals of pain for days, months, or even years. It can take a physical and emotional toll on a person.

Chronic Pain can not only cause extreme physical discomfort, but can also cause psychological problems that will also need to be dealt with. The physical aspects of chronic pain can stem from backaches, headaches, joint pain, or past pain from an injury. Chronic pain can also be caused by carpel tunnel syndrome, sinus pain, or other specific parts of the body such as the neck, shoulders, or lower back. Also ongoing nerve and muscle pain can cause chronic pain that can last for years. Besides having to deal with the physical pain, chronic pain can also have an emotional toll on you that can actually make the pain worse. Such emotional issues can be anxiety, depression, anger, fear, hopelessness, and all in all just extreme negative feelings. These feelings can be caused by lack of energy, sleeplessness, not being able to take on day to day activities, and just constantly being in pain.

Before you make a trip to the doctor, you are going to want to make a list of your symptoms. The most common symptoms of chronic pain are:

- mild to severe pain that will not go away that is continuous for six months or more

- pain that can be described as burning, shooting, tingling, electrical, or aching

- a constant feeling of being sore, tightness, discomfort, or stiffness

These are the obvious symptoms. Having chronic pain can also cause:

- fatigue

- withdrawal from activities and constant need to rest – sleeplessness

- changes in mood such as anxiety, depression, hopelessness, stress, and irrability

If you believe you that you are suffering from chronic pain, these are going to be a lot of your symptoms.

If chronic pain is affecting your quality of life, you are going to want to see a doctor. When you make the decision to see your doctor, you need to be prepared. The doctor will ask you a lot of your medical history. They will want to know details and how your chronic pain is affecting your daily life. The doctor is going to want to know exactly where your pain is. They will need to know quite a bit of details before they diagnose you and decide what treatment plan is right for you.

Once you have been diagnosed with chronic pain, the doctor will go over a treatment plan with you. Since there are many different types of chronic pain, each case is different. The doctor will treat chronic back pain completely different from chronic sinus pain. Your doctor will go over all of the medications, therapies, and mind-body techniques that you can consider to treat your pain. They will go over all the benefits and risks, including addiction. It may take some trial and error before you and your doctor decide what the right treatment is for you.

Chronic pain can be extremely difficult to deal with, but once you find the right doctor and the right treatment plan, your quality of life can be greatly improved and you can once again live your life to the fullest.

Most of us would be able to name an occasion when we were deeply moved by how music helped us at some point in our lives. After all, music forms such an integral part of our rituals and ceremonies – weddings, funerals, christenings, even sporting events. It’s the moment when we can all share in the experience, irrespective of our differences.

But could you go as far as to say that you have experienced being healed by music? Music is now being listed as a method for healing and more and more research is being done to show it’s benefits. As always with our belief in the superior science and sophistication of the twentyfirst century we think we have discovered something new but really we are simply rediscovering something the ancients knew all along. Mystics throughout time have chanted or used drums to summon up the healing spirits. In the ancient world, the Greek, Roman and Egyptian schools all thought that sound was the all conquering force of nature. Pythagoras, that great mathematician, also put forward the theory that music held great healing powers.

Think of a time when you’ve had a really rough day and have come home and flopped down on the couch to the sounds of your favourite CD. All is quiet, and as you listen you can feel your tensions melt away, you become more relaxed and step by step become more like your real self. Can it simply be the effects of the music? Medical studies are now showing that there is a direct link between music and our physical state; much more than being a simple “pick me up”. Reseach has found music can improve our immune system, our ability to relieve pain and can even improve our mental functioning and capacity to reason.

We can look back to the 60’s to see a remarkable example of how this works. After Latin was replaced by French as the language of prayer at a Benedictine monastery in France, plain song was abandoned in favour of other activites. After a short while it became clear something drastic had happened. The monks, who had previously survived on little sleep, suddenly became tired and listless and more prone to illness. Various methods were introduced to try to alleviate the symptoms; more sleep, a healthier diet with more meat and proteins. But none of this helped and the monks health continued to deteriorate including their hearing. Eventually the Abbot called in an expert physician and ear specialist, a Dr Alfred Tomatis. His advise, after the examining the situation, was to re-introduce chanting into the daily routine of the monastery. In less than nine months, most of the monks were back to rude health and able to go back to their old routine of a great deal of work on very little sleep.

But you don’t need to learn Gregorian Chant to benefit! Try humming on your way to work, especially if you’re in the car. Join the craze in MP3 players & Ipods and make your favourite music more portable than it has ever been. You will then realise how music helps you out start the day off. Listen in, tune out the noise pollution so prolific in our world, and watch your health improve.

Most of us would be able to name an occasion when we were deeply touched by how musicmusic helped us at a difficult point in us. In this article, Cathy CoxCathy Cox examines how music has the power to heal us.

Lower back pain is a widespread nuisance for many people. As a matter of fact, it is one of the primary reasons people call in sick to work. Chances are pretty good that you or someone you know will deal with it at some point in their lifetime. In most cases having a sore lower back can be avoided. More than likely the problem results from tight and weak muscles in the abdomen, lower back, butt, and hamstrings. Maintaining flexibility and strength in these areas can provide serious low back pain relief. Many times, it will completely eliminate it.

I am going to walk you through some very simple exercises that can help you relieve this problem. Keep in mind the best option is to make these a part of a total body fitness program. Of course before you attempt these you should seek the advice of a medical professional to be sure you don’t have any serious problems. Also, if you are overweight you really need to adopt a good weight loss program. Extra pounds can put extra strain on the lower back muscles as well as the discs. The more overweight you are, the less effective these exercises become.

1. Stability ball hyper-extention – The stability ball should be placed under your midsection with your thighs and stomach on top of the ball. Your toes should be on the floor with your feet flush up against the wall. Place your fingers on your temples and have your elbows pointing out to the side. Bend forward at the waist as far as possible without moving your feet. Now lift up your torso as high as you can. There should be some tightening in your lower back when you hit peak elevation. Complete 5-20 repetitions.

2. Stability ball reverse hyper-extension – Use the same stomach and thigh body position on stability ball as you did for hyper-extensions. Place your hands on the floor so they are shoulder width apart. Without moving them, lift your legs up in the air as high as you can. There should only be a very slight bend in your knees. Do 5-20 repetitions of this exercise.

3. Toe touch stretch – Standing with your feet together, keep your knees straight and bend over. Your arms should hang loose and fingertips should point to the toes. Don’t force the stretch, relax your muscles and let gravity work on it’s own. Hold this for 30 seconds.

4. Cat in the alley stretch – Position yourself on all fours. Round your back until you feel the muscles in the upper back stretching. Hold for 30 seconds.

If you do this twice a week, having a sore lower back will be a thing of the past. Low back pain relief is in your hands. Allowing yourself to suffer from pain due to deconditioned muscles is like getting robbed because you didn’t lock your front door. In other words, you deserve some sympathy but you also need a swift kick in the pants. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

You owe it to yourself to check out one of Vaughn’s workout routines. His free workout plans have helped many people reach their fitness goals.

Tens of millions of Americans routinely suffering with chronic aches and pains. It is a problem so common and widespread many of the suffers mistakenly believe it’s normal to have these issues. The problem is, while it may be common it certainly is not normal. It’s not normal to have reoccurring headaches. It’s not normal or okay to have back pain, neck pain, tension across the shoulders or pain traveling into the arms or legs. Pain is the body’s warning signal that something is wrong. The body produces pain messages so we will pay attention to ourselves and take steps to get our problems corrected.

The most popular treatment solution procedure is actually for the purpose of treating ache is via taking an over the counter or pharmaceutical strength medication. Designed for over the counter medicine, the actual most wide-spread products involve Tylenol, Motrin, Aspirin, and Aleve. Designed for doctor prescribed strength medications, physicians typically prescribe high power NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories), muscle relaxers and even narcotic power pain killers. These types of pharmacological techniques may get the job done for the short term to provide some relief from discomfort. Never the less the actual challenge is usually that they do absolutely not target what’s causing the actual agony. They merely serve to mask the your body’s symptoms.

For ever effect, there is an underlying cause. It is a universal law. Every cause has an effect and every effect has a cause. Which one does it make more sense to focus on when attempting to correct chronic pain syndromes such as migraines, fibromyalgia and lower back pain? The causes include misaligned vertebrae, muscle spasms, irritation to the nervous system, abnormal posture, sprains and sprains, deconditioning, and even chemical irritations brought on by certain foods.

There are always multiple options to the actual very same issue. And when it arrives to managing reoccuring discomfort, you can find dozens of several viable tactics. Some of these kinds of solutions may very well come in the form of simply eliminating particular foods you may possibly be eating which puts your body into acidosis and thus causes an inflammatory cascade. This could include things like sugar, white flour, gluten, dairy, and an imbalance of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids. Another easy way to decrease recurring pain is usually to drink more water. Men and women tend to be chronically dehydrated. And water can be utilized to lubricate and protect the joints. By drinking much more water (and less coffee, soda and beer), you will be able to flush out the actual toxins from your system and restore the actual correct amount of intra and extra cellular fluids. We have to also include things like regular exercise in any pain-management plan.

As outlined by Dr. Kevin Smith (clinic director at Red Apple Wellness & Chiropractic; http://www.redapplewellness.net) One of the actual most widespread yet overlooked causes of agony can be a lack of motion in the actual joints – caused by a sedentary lifestyle or motion crises due to old injuries which were certainly not properly rehabilitated. If a joint is actually absolutely not moving correctly it begins for getting inflammed, a condition known as arthritis. An additional widely overlooked result in of agony might be abnormal posture (something like forward head posture, a high shoulder, a high hip, or shifts and tilts in the actual pelvis). Other causes of constant ache entail what I refer to as functional deficits which contain muscular weaknesses in the actual core or the actual extremities. Whether or not it truly is a joint motion challenge, abnormal posture or a functional weakness, just about every of any of these predicaments might be detected and corrected via a combination of chiropractic care and supportive rehabilitation.

I was recently discussing this issue with a person in the internet. And his response was – why should I use a chiropractor when I can just take Ibuprofen? It is so much cheaper. Besides, I don’t have any problems with taking the drugs, and if I ever do develop the problems I’ll stop.

There’s a pretty significant flaw with that guy’s thinking. The problem is – why wait until you’ve got irreparable damage to your body before you think twice about taking medicines? Why wait until you’ve trashed your stomach, your liver and your kidneys before the light bulb goes off over your head and you wise up to the realization that long term reliance of these pain medications and NSAID’s is bad news? It reminds me of the guy who smokes cigarettes for 40 years and then is shocked and befuddled when he develops lung cancer. “I didn’t know cigarettes were bad for me!” The second flaw in that person’s thinking is that no matter what drug he takes, it will never restore abnormal joint motion, correct poor posture or strengthen and stabilize weak muscles and other supportive soft tissues. Taking drugs for these problems is using the wrong tool for the job – like trying to eat soup with a fork.

Acupuncture has spread around the world since originating in China but conventional western medicine has remained steadfastly skeptical. Although there is now good evidence that acupuncture can relieve pain, many of the other health benefits acupuncturists claim are on shakier ground.

Despite acupuncture’s 4,000-year history, little is known about the biological pathways that enable carefully placed needles to relieve pain in many patients. While controversy remains surrounding acupuncture, in certain quarters, researchers have determined the compound adenosine is key to acupuncture’s effectiveness. In a paper published in Nature neuroscience, researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center identified the molecule adenosine as a central player in parlaying some of the effects of acupuncture in the body.

This study focused on determining the effects of acupuncture on the peripheral nervous system, the nerves in our bodies that aren’t a part of the central nervous system-the spinal cord and brain.

It’s cause quite a stir across the internet. The argument against the study’s validity, according to the non-believers is the results are attributed to the ” placebo effect.” But they are misinformed-the placebo effect is present in humans, not animals. It is the effect of the mind’s belief that a treatment will work.

The latest research gives doctors a sound explanation of how sticking needles into the skin can alleviate, rather than exacerbate, pain. The discovery will challenge the view, widely held among scientists, that any benefits a patient feels after acupuncture are due purely to the placebo effect.

The research contributes to a multitude of studies that have demonstrated acupuncture’s ability to trigger signals, that stimulates the brain to release natural pain-killing endorphins.

The research focuses on adenosine, a neurotransmitter known for its role in regulating sleep, for its effects on the heart, and for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also acts as a natural painkiller, becoming active in the skin after an injury to inhibit nerve signals and ease pain.

The scientists gave each mouse a sore paw by injecting it with an inflammatory chemical. The researchers performed acupuncture treatments on mice with discomfort in one paw. The mice each received a 30-minute acupuncture treatment at a well known acupuncture point near the knee, with very fine needles rotated gently every five minutes, similar to the way humans are treated with acupuncture. The scientists recorded how quickly each mouse pulled its sore paw away from a small bristly brush. The more pain the mice were in, the faster they pulled away.

The levels of adenosine in the tissue adjacent to the needle, rose 24-fold in the tissue fluid surrounding the needle.

Researchers mimicked acupuncture in mice by placing and gradually rotating a needle at a point just below the knee, for 30 minutes. The mice injected with an inflammatory substance in their paws and given acupuncture displayed fewer pain symptoms than mice that didn’t get acupuncture.

Half of the mice lacked a gene that is needed to make adenosine receptors, which are found on major nerves. But those that were genetically engineered, lacking certain adenosine receptors failed to experience any benefit from the acupuncture, additional proof of adenosine’s role. Also enzymes that block adenosine’s break down enhanced acupuncture’s effectiveness, tripling the level of adenosine near the needle and extending pain relief from about one hour to about three hours.

For many, dealing with pain or chronic-types of pain is an ongoing battle, often affecting their everyday lives in the end. Some might even take whatever steps they feel are necessary in order to treat their pain, even if it entails finding themselves at risk for addiction where medically prescribed treatments are concerned. However, many are also starting to take a new, yet not-so-new approach to treating their pain such as seeking out herbal pain relievers.

Herbal pain remedies have been around for centuries upon centuries, treating much of mankind’s pain ailments. Although they may not offer the powerful relief that are commonly known to come from stronger medical prescriptions, they often do not bear any serious side effects that prescription drugs generally have or hold risks for becoming chemically addicted.

Natural pain remedies may also be able to address other health matters that users may not even be aware of in some cases. They can even be beneficial in regards to the body’s natural immune system, promoting better healing in general. However, despite their lack of side effects, it’s also important to treat natural pain relievers with the same seriousness and respect that one would afford when taking any medication-type drugs.

When it comes to anti-inflammatory or non-steroidal concerns, these can be treated quite well through the use of herbal remedies. Pain sufferers who also feel the desire to reduce their need for prescribed drugs may often turn to these herbal treatments for a better alternative. However, it’s important to always speak with your healthcare professional before changing any prescriptions that one might be on.

When it comes to ailments such as headaches and chronic migraines, arthritis and so forth, herbal relievers are a great way to treat a variety of issues. For example, when it comes to inflammation and swelling, many may opt to use holy basil. Another example would be for those who from rheumatoid arthritis such as tumeric and fish oil as a form of treatment.

When it comes down to it, herbal pain relievers are a wonderful way to help treat pain relief, often without the commonly known risks that chemical treatments tend to have. However, in the end, it’s always a good idea to treat any natural remedies wisely, just as you would with any other form of pain relief.

Acid Reflux, which creates heartburn affects about 60 million Americans daily. It must be countless worldwide. Is there any quick fix for this discomfort? Actually there is a few things that work pretty well. Here are some tips to help you stop acid reflux quickly.

Prevention, of course is the better course. And that is possible by learning food combining, and by following a holistic heartburn cure system. But for right now when your throat is burning, try these tips.

1. Gum chewing, right after their meal, is helpful for many people. But, not peppermint. Strange, but for some it just doesn’t work. The chewing of gum produces saliva which washes down the esophagus and helps put that acid back into the stomach.

2. Whatever you can do to cause the creation of saliva can be helpful. The saliva helps to rinse the food passageway. Hard candies work for this as well as gum chewing. Saliva has the qualities of bicarbonate and help digestion.

3. My Dad’s favorite relief came from a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed in a glass of water. For him it seemed to work fairly well. It helped me also, but, I had more trouble with the taste than Dad did.

4. If you don’t mind the taste, try a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in warm water and sip at it for a while. It should help neutralize some of the acid.

5. Herb Tea helps sometimes. But not just any herbs. Ginger is good, so is basil and oregano. Remember the dried herbs are more potent than fresh ones. Use about a tablespoon in 2 cups of hot water, and let ti steep for about half an hour. Be sure to strain the tea before you drink it. Some folks take this tea about 20 or 30 minutes before their meals and find it helps. It also helps to take a hot cup of this tea before bed.

While these natural tips will ease your discomfort temporarily, the smartest thing to do is to ind a natural way to cure your heartburn once and for all. Yes, it can be done, no matter what your doctor may have told you.

There is aplancalled Heartburn No More which teaches you to heal the basis of your discomfort and gives you honest and total relief. You can learn about it, and about what to eat while you accomplishthe cure at Bye Bye Acid Reflux
