Stretches For Lower Back That Are Popular

February 22nd, 2010 Alexander Thomas No comments

It is very important to do some kind of stretching, be it in the form of doing some work out and going about doing your daily routine activities as this will help in increasing the flexibility of your body and gets you feeling relaxed and refreshed. There are some stretches for your lower back that one must learn in particular as they will significantly help in loosening your body.

The stretches for your back help you notably with your back pain besides relaxing your muscles and relieving you from your back pain.

Cat Stretches that are simple

This is definitely one of the easiest lower back stretches to learn. It is a great exercise to do in the morning and at night, and most people can perform it quite comfortably. On hands and knees, you start by gently arching the spine, first in one direction and then in the other, with coordinated breathing. The goal here is to gently wake up the spine and paraspinal muscles, increasing flexibility and ease of movement.

Body mobilizing

One of the other most well known stretches for the lower back is the mobilize for full back. This is more complex and dynamic when compared to the other lower back stretches. All that one is required to do is stand on their feet with a width that is wide as your hip with your knees slightly bent and soft.

Now gradually touch your chin to the chest, next move your head in the direction of the floor and slowly bend by the waist so that your hands touch your knees. Now by your hands on the knees just for the support, maintaining your knees soft and in a bending position so that you are not in an uncomfortable position. Do bend as far as your elbows meet the knees which can be great.

Then from this supported position you want to slowly straighten your right knee while allowing your left knee to bend even further. Feel the stretch but make sure that you do not push too hard because you do not want to end up injuring yourself.

Remember that all of these lower back stretches should be done slowly and mindfully, preferably in a quiet room where there will not be any distractions. If done properly, you will notice results almost immediately, so just make sure that you perform them properly and do not rush through the process mechanically.

With the introduction of these two stretches, you can choose your own preferred exercise. There are a lot more different types of lower back exercises to choose from.

Back stretches will help you to keep your back more flexible. Using a right stretching equipment will be a best options while doing stretching.

Neck Pain Relief: Massage Chairs Confirm Deep Tissue Massage

January 9th, 2010 Jeffrey Brookeview No comments

Certain pain conditions such as tension, constant pain or even chronic pain cause considerable discomfort. To help relieve some of these conditions, a massage to penetrate more deeply was needed. This massage technique is now called deep tissue massage. When muscles are used, they can breakdown in their flexibility and range of motion because fibers start to split. To repair the flexibility, pressure and stroking was found to bring back their natural elasticity. Deep tissue massage penetrates beyond the superficial muscles and gets to the bone.

After performing exercise, you may notice your muscles become stiffer. Exercise breaks down the muscle tissue making the tendons shorter and more fibrous. That is why it is good to stretch muscles before and after exercise. While stretching elongates the whole muscle, massage targets smaller regions for restoration. A deep tissue massage seeks to elongate and stretch the tendons to increase their elasticity and flexibility.

If you are a team member of a professional sports franchise, then your routinely obtain deep tissue massage. This is known to help healing form injuries and to increase range of motion of muscles. The heavy workouts cause muscles to breakdown and become tight. Loosening the muscles regains their former flexibility. However, not all of us have access to a massage therapist.

Studies show that deep tissue is effective for relieving muscle pain, tension and anxiety. Since the daily stress on our bodies is continuous, the treatments are only truly beneficial when received on a continuous, recurring basis. A one time treatment is not a one-time cure all. To get daily pain relief, the treatment must be given with sufficient frequency. This is where a deep tissue massage chair can be a tremendous asset. There is an amazing variety of potential massage therapies to target areas for pain relief.

If you are interested in massage chairs that provide deep tissue massages. Two of the best massage chair recliners come from Panasonic and Omega Massage. These leaders integrate excellent technology to provide deep tissue relief. Not only can you get deep tissue massage, but it can be complimented with lower body stretches, full body heat and even synchronized music and massage functions. The technology available is outstanding and the effectiveness of relief is there to boot.

These massage chair companies are developing therapies for persons who suffer from more chronic conditions such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, muscle cramping and even carpal tunnel syndrome. Many new features target such areas. With air compression massage, for example, there are airbags for your hands and forearms. The program will gently squeeze, hold and then release. This gentle, repetitive action loosens the muscles, relieves aches and pains. Massage chairs can deliver full body massages from the neck to the feet.

Before running down to the store and buying a massage chair, make sure that your doctor recommends a deep tissue massage. Although deep tissue massage is effective, it may not be right for you. Deep tissue penetrates more thoroughly which could cause some pain or discomfort the next day. This is just your body telling you that the massage penetrated thoroughly. Your muscles have been stretched, elongated and restored.

If you are like most people, then tension and anxiety build up slowly over time in the body. These tensions and anxieties needs to be released from the body over time as well. Deep tissue massage helps restore your muscles and tendons, but other massage techniques relieve tension and anxiety. The best massage chairs provide for full body massage therapy and come with a wide range of complimentary therapies. There is a terrific variety to meet every one of your massage therapy needs.

Health Benefits Of Far Infrared Ray (FIR) Saunas

October 16th, 2009 Benjamin Andrews No comments

The good news is that FIR Saunas have a good amount of clinical research to prove their safety and effectiveness. The bulk of the research is coming out of Japan. It turns out that controlled hyperthermia (raising the temperature of the body) through FIR Sauna therapy helps all of the body’s tissues to get activated and function better. To understand how FIR-Saunas benefit our health see the list below.

Asthma: May be cleared up (like moving to Arizona’s dry air). A case study was reported in which a 41 year old male suffered from toxic occupational asthma, headaches, depression and other complaints. Serum analysis revealed an extremely high level of toluene (a toxin) and antibodies to isocyanate, TMA and formaldehyde (toxins). He was placed on a FIR therapy program and his lungs cleared up within 3 days. After 52 days, his health had improved by 85%. Post treatment analysis revealed no detectable levels of any volatile compounds.

Blood Pressure (High): 1. Finnish researchers state that there is abundant evidence to suggest that blood vessels of regular sauna-goers remain elastic and pliable longer due to the regular dilation and contraction of blood vessels induced by sauna use. German medical researchers reported in “Dermatol Monatsschr” in 1989 that a single whole-body session of infrared-induced hyperthermia lasting over one hour had only beneficial effects on subjects with stage I-II essential hypertension. Each subject experienced a rise in core body temperature to a maximum level of 38.5C (101.3F). All of the subjects in one experiment had significant decrease in arterial, venous and mean blood pressure that lasted for at least 24 hours and was linked, according to the researchers, to a persistent peripheral dilation effect. An improvement in plasma viscosity was also noted. 2. Another group of similar hypertension patients was also studied under the same conditions of infrared-induced hyperthermia, with an eye toward more carefully evaluating the circulatory system effects induced by this type of whole-body heating. During each infrared session, there was a significant decrease of blood pressure, cardiac ejection resistance, and total peripheral resistance in every subject. There was also a significant increase during each session of the subjects’ heart rates, stroke volumes, cardiac outputs and ejection fractions. The researchers cite these last three effects as evidences that the stimulation of the heart during infrared-induced hyperthermia is well compensated, while the prior list of effects clearly show the microcirculatory changes that lead to the desired result of a lowering of blood pressure. 3. See more information under Heart Disease

Cellulite: Cellulite is a gel-like substance made up of fat, water and wastes, which are trapped in pockets below the skin. FIR sauna therapy can assist this condition, as profuse sweating helps clear this form of unwanted debris from the body. European beauty specialists confirm that a sauna will greatly speed any anti-cellulite program. Because FIR saunas have at least twice the depth of heat penetration into cellulite combined with up to 10 times the level of heating in these tissues, they are significantly more effective than any conventional sauna at removing cellulite.

Detoxification: Hyperthermia (fever) is the body’s natural way to eliminate bacteria, viruses and toxic organisms by sweating them out through the skin. Infrared sauna use is perhaps the most effective method of prompting hyperthermia (rise in body temperature) for the purpose of detoxification. Increased blood circulation stimulates the sweat glands, quickly expunging built-up toxins and waste, through the skin, the body’s largest organ. Daily sweating can help detoxify the body as it rids itself of an accumulation of potentially carcinogenic heavy metals (lead, mercury, nickel, cadmium, aluminum) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sodium, sulfuric acid, arsenic, cholesterol, ammonia, uric acid, hydrocarbon residues, narcotic drugs and hormone disrupting chemicals (dioxins, PCBs, formaldehyde, agricultural chemicals, industrial chemicals, gasoline, pesticides, food additives, etc.). These toxins may be deposited deep beneath the skin in the body fat and internal organs. Infrared is able to penetrate deep into the body and cause a resonance in the water molecules that surrounds the cells. Because the far infrared frequency matches that of the body, this resonance allows the water molecules to move more freely in and out through the membrane of the cells. As sweat and oils and secreted, the toxins dissolved in them are secreted as well.

Flexibility: A FIR Sauna is perfect as a “heat therapy room” for athletes looking for a pre-workout warm-up to warm up muscles and increase flexibility, helping to prevent injury. It’s also ideal for pre-warm-up for physical therapy and massage therapy, or for a relaxing, wind-down at the end of a stress-filled day.

In 12 patient study of neonates with congestive heart failure due to ventricular septal defect, clinical signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure decreased, urine nitrate levels decreased and 75% of patients avoided surgical repair.

Immune System: The deep heat from the FIR sauna raises your body temperature, inducing an artificial fever. Our bodies normally develop fever when ill to enhance metabolism and help to kill germs; the physiology is very similar for artificially induced fever. As the body works to combat the artificial “fever,” the body’s immune system is strengthened. FIR Saunas increase overall health and resistance to disease as heating of the tissues enhances metabolic processes. The leukocyte, macrophage, NK cells and T cells are activated (the immune power is multiplied by 200 times by raising the body core temperature up 3.5 degrees). Greater cellular energy production facilitates healing. The stimulated immune system helps the body to fight off any invasive organisms like bacteria or virus in the early stages of cold, cough, or flu, preventing disease from occurring. Viruses, tumors and toxin-laden cells which are weaker than normal cells are excreted as they tolerate heat poorly. Raising the body temperature causes infections to heal more quickly. Hyperthermia even helps to combat cancer.

Muscle Spasm: Muscle spasms have long been observed to be reduced through the use of heat, whether they be secondary to underlying skeletal, joint, or neuro-pathological conditions. This result is possibly produced by the combined effect of heat on both primary and secondary afferent nerves from spindle cells and from its effects on Golgi tendon organs. The results produced demonstrated their peak effect within the therapeutic temperature range obtainable with FIR heat.

Skin/Beauty: 1. The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in far infrared sauna unclogs the skin pores and carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing, youthful, baby smooth, soft, immaculately clean and free of accumulated dirt and dry skin cells. Increased circulation and dilation of the body’s capillary network draws the skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface. It improves complexion, tone, elasticity, texture and fresh color of the skin. 2. Increased blood circulation has also been shown to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts. In addition, open wounds may heal more quickly, reducing scarring and even burns.

Hopefully this list of health benefits will be useful. More positive results keep coming in from users and researches around the world so we will have to keep an eye on incoming information.

How Do Portable Infrared Saunas Work?

October 9th, 2009 Benjamin Andrews No comments

Finally, portable infrared ray saunas are available and at a price we can all live with. In the few years since portable infrared ray saunas have been available to purchase they have topped the wish lists of people around the globe.

All of this infrared ray sauna buzz is a direct result of two important and unique features of these portable saunas. First, they are portable, so you can take them everywhere you travel. All you need is a duffel bag, or anything really, as long as its roughly the size of a suitcase. Second, they are very efficient at what they do. The average person can burn as many calories sitting in their portable infrared sauna reading a magazine for 30 minutes that they can running 2-3 miles.

Just a short session in the sauna lessens pain in muscles and joints. Sitting in a sauna for 30 minutes releases endorphins into the blood according to a study by Czech Scientists. Endorphins are the bodies natural method for relieving pain and also contribute to the euphoric feeling that often follows a healthy aerobic workout.

As a result of everyday living we accumulate toxins in our bodies. Experts are saying that we have over 400 new toxins today that didn’t even exist 45 years ago (Dr. Steve Nugent, 2003.) This is a trend that portable infrared saunas have been proven to be a major contributor in reversing this trend and removing many of the toxins in our bodies’ cells.

When toxins such as mercury, lead, chlorine, etc. enter our systems, they are absorbed by water molecules with-in our cells. Where ever these toxins are found, cellular energy is lessened and blood circulation is blocked. Deep penetrating infrared heat causes the water molecules to vibrate which reduces the ion bonds that hold together the molecules of water. Encapsulated gases and other toxic materials are released as the breakdown of the water molecules takes place.

Water molecules vibrate at roughly 9400 micrometers. Portable infrared saunas emit rays at that same level, which is beneficial for humans. Our bodies are 60% water which makes these infrared saunas very efficient for detox and relaxation.

One of the major effects of the deep penetrating infrared heat is a relaxing of internal muscles and organs. There are few better ways to escape the stresses of daily life than with a session in one of these portable saunas.

It is a wonder no one came up with these sooner. They are so effective at what they do and are easy to bring everywhere you go. At around three-hundred dollars apiece they are a steal.

Wellness With A Portable Infrared Sauna

Finally, portable infrared ray saunas are available and at a price we can all live with. In the few years since portable infrared ray saunas have been available to purchase they have topped the wish lists of people around the globe.

The reasons behind the popularity of the portable infrared ray saunas are pretty obvious, and two fold. On the one hand you can bring them along with you no matter the destination due to their portability. On the other hand they have a huge bang for their buck. Studies show that a thirty minute session in a portable infrared ray sauna is roughly equivalent to a 2-3 mile run.

There is an ever worsening problem among people today. Some researchers have found in our bodies over 400 new toxins today that didn’t even exist 45 years ago (Dr. Steve Nugent, 2003.) Our bodies are continually storing more toxic materials. It has been proven that the extraction of these toxins is greatly improved by regular infrared sauna use.

The list of toxins we are continually accumulating is long with things like chlorine or lead being high on the chart. Water molecules absorb these toxins and move throughout the body causing worsened blood flow and lessened energy. Infrared heat functions to break the water molecules apart. This frees the toxins and allows the body to remove them.

The human body is very compatible with infrared ray saunas. Water molecules vibrate at about 9400 micrometers which is where the sauna rays vibrate. Since we are roughly 60% percent water we are able to absorb the infrared heat very well. All the while we enjoy a comfortable and warm sauna environment.

These portable saunas really make it easy to slip away from the rough and tumble of your day and relax. The penetrating infrared rays really get at the internal organs and muscles and help to sooth them.

With so many health benefits, the ease of portability and a price tag of around only $300 for an entire spa, it is no wonder the portable infrared saunas are popular. What took so long for someone to come up with the idea?

Obtain Pain Relief: A Massage Chair Performs Deep Tissue Massage

September 5th, 2009 Jacob Smith No comments

Deep tissue massage is found to be effective at relieving more chronic pain conditions. Lighter massage techniques do not penetrate as deeply to be effective. When a deep tissue massage is applied, it targets the deeper layers of the muscles. Muscles breakdown when used. To restore flexibility and heal scar tissue, deep pressure and stroking is applied. The stroking and pressure stretch out the muscle tissues increasing their flexibility.

In daily life muscles get exercised or stressed by our activities and begin to breakdown through time. Add injury to the equation, and now scar tissue is introduced, which is again less flexible. Therefore, to get effective relief, the massage must penetrate deeply into the muscles to help break down scar tissue and crystallization. This deep penetration helps to restore the muscles and their flexibility.

Professional athletes receive deep tissue massages on a regular basis to restore their muscles, breakdown scar tissue and increase their mobility. This is especially critical after hard training and exercise. Professional athletes have regular access to obtain deep tissue massage therapy and thus can get the full benefit of the treatment. Those of us who are not professional athletes are at a significant disadvantage, since we may not have a massage therapist at our continuous disposal.

One interesting note with massage as with exercise or diet, is that these things are only beneficial if done on a continuous basis. We cannot expect to lose weight by limiting our diet at one meal. Just like deep tissue massage, it must be applied on a periodic basis to be effective. If we exercise regularly, then our muscles are being broken down regularly. We need to revitalize these muscles on a regular basis as well. Massage chairs can provide such access on a regular basis at your convenience.

Technology continues to advance at a rapid pace and deep tissue massage has been integrated into many of the premier massage chair brands. Companies like Panasonic, Omega Massage and others are pushing the limits with ever more varieties massage therapies into their chairs. These massage therapies include air compression, stretching, heating elements, music therapy to name a few. Software programs control all aspects of the deep tissue massage. The program starts the massage more superficially and then gradual works deeper into the muscles working out the tightness, pain and aches.

Massage chair companies like Panasonic and Omega Massage develop massage chairs to help relieve certain pain conditions. There are many ailments that plagued us. Simple things like using a mouse over time can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Although using a mouse is small movements, these small repetitive movements cause considerable pain and discomfort. The Omega Montage Premier Massage chair has an air compression massage just for the hands and forearm. This provides relief be helping to restore flexibility in the muscles.

But remember, the effectiveness of massage therapy is obtaining it on a regular basis. Stress, tension, anxiety builds up gradually and must be relieved on a continuous basis. People who have more chronic conditions should also receive massage therapy on a continuous basis. As the damage to muscles is more severe, it takes more time for the healing process. Seek relief for your pain. A great way to do this is to see what massage chair recliners are available. There is one for every pain and every price range.

Is Using A Fitness Inversion Table Like Performing Yoga?

August 20th, 2009 Jon Schock No comments

Regular use of a fitness inversion table accompanied by a regular inversion therapy routine can yield great benefits for your body. However, to realize the greatest effects you must be regular in your efforts. I imagine it wouldn’t be called therapy if it was that easy, right?

The principles of inversion therapy are not that hard to understand and will help you see how a fitness inversion table can help your physical fitness. The simplest way to explain it is that you just hang upside down. It is that easy. It may look like a unusual way to get fit but it actually works. Dangling upside down turns gravity against itself. This may be the answer not only to your neck pain but also to that increased level of physical fitness you have been waiting for.

Sustaining a slow and consistent pace while using a fitness inversion table will yield the best results. To see the best outcome, start slowly. It is key to create a regular routine and then to stay with it. If you find yourself getting frustrated, remember that it might take a few attempts to get used to it and don’t forget the long term benefits. So what are the true benefits you can expect from hanging upside down?

First, it tends to your back by easing compression pain. This is because it extends the whole body and loosens wound up muscles at the same time. All day your body is subjected to continuous stress. Escaping for a spell with inversion therapy can assist your body bounce back from a rough day at work or a nerve-wracking day at home. If you think about it, inversion therapy can be a lot like yoga in that it has a really relaxing effect on you. The only difference is that you will not have to go through all those spine breaking poses. In the end this will make you more relaxed.

Expanding the backbone is next. Gravitational Force never rests, even if you are. Your backbone is under constant assault by gravity which pulls down on your discs and compresses your spinal column. Now, think about hanging upside down. The opposite is true. Now you can get back at gravity. Hanging upside down stretching your spine and increases the space between your discs which reduces stress and leads to less pain.

Backbone extending training can lead to remarkable health benefits. A couple of these benefits are better blood flow and improved flexibility. You may even grow a little taller! This is in reality due to the results of inversion therapy on your posture rather than really growing. With any therapy routine it is important to consult with your physician. Even so, capitalize on the benefits of using a fitness inversion table as they have been shown to create measurable results.

Balance Training Is A Commitment To Perfect Balance

August 1st, 2009 Terry Lane No comments

How do we keep our balance? Both the physical and the emotional kind? Training our minds to be as balanced as our bodies is especially challenging in this busy world. All it takes is a little practice. Balance training is just like any other kind of workout and has a very specific goal. Dont fall! That is your goal. But what exactly does it take to make our bodies and our minds better equipped to staying upright?

To physically understand balance training, look at the muscles needed in keeping our balance. Leg muscles, back muscles, and core muscles make up the magic grouping. These are the groups of muscles involved with keeping upright and balanced. Keeping these body parts strong and agile will help fend off fits of falling especially as we age.

The leg muscles and their ability to react with strength have an enormous impact on strong balance skills. Exercises like squats and lunges work your quads, hamstrings, glutes and lower leg. They work doubly hard by working balance itself. Try doing a lunge when your balance is off. Its impossible. If age related injuries or old sports injures prevent you from doing squats and lunges, take a swim. Swimming is a weight supported exercise and a little easier on the joints than weight bearing exercise.

The back muscles working directly with the spine can keep you mobile and standing tall. The long erector muscles on either side of the spinal column do exactly what their name implies by keeping your spine erect. As long as there isnt any outstanding issues with degenerative disc or bone diseases, strengthening these back muscles will help to keep you standing tall. The function of the spinal muscles is to move your spine into extension, so any exercise that works spinal extension should be added into balance training.

Core muscles include the abdominal, gluteal, inner thigh, and pelvic floor muscles. These are the biggest contributors to better posture and balance. Keeping stable on an unstable surface automatically engages the core muscles. For instance, working on a balance pad or any other unstable tool forces you into trying to keep your balance and its the core muscles that keep you there. Pilates is infamous for a stronger core, so find a qualified instructor and find your balance.

Keeping a balanced body is physically challenging, but keeping a balanced mind is more intangible and harder to do. This is a busy life and a fast-paced world. Raising kids in this kind of environment, or earning enough money to live comfortably, or making sure you have enough savings for retirement all take their toll on our psyche. Find moments of peace where you can reflect on your life. Taking a little time for yourself can be meaningful in the long run.

It’s important to remain strong especially as one ages. But it means a commitment to hard work both emotionally and physically. Start now by taking care of yourself. Before you know it the future will be here so you better be prepared to deal with it.
