<p>Chiropractic Care Unwrapped</p>
<p>To completely understand the dangers involved with spinal misalignment, it is essential to first understand the basic value of chiropractic care.</p>
<p>Chiropractic is a system of regular adjustments that corrects misalignments of the vertebrae in the spine. The theory behind chiropractic care says that these misalignments cause all of the dis-ease and irritation that we suffer in our bodies, which will result in disease and further pain if left untreated.</p>
<p>There are three major sources of spinal misalignments:</p>
<p>(1)	Trauma or physical stresses placed on the body as a result of exercise, work, car collisions, etc.</p>
<p>(2)	Stress stemming from daily life including work, family, social demands, spiritual concerns, etc.</p>
<p>(3)	Chemicals that we put into our bodies in the form of food, prescription or illegal drugs, diet ingredients (i.e. aspartame), etc.</p>
<p>You might be curious if these three sources are truly the reason for all malfunction in the body, causing illness? You are not alone! Dr. Henry Windsor dealt with similar doubts and as a result, carried out a study of the body to find out if these three factors were in fact the consequence of infection in the body.</p>
<p>A Revealing Case Study</p>
<p>To dispel his doubts, Dr. Windsor, a physician from the University of Pennsylvania, studied fifty cadavers from the pathology department to find unhealthy organs. In those fifty cadavers, Dr. Windsor discovered 139 diseased organs, such as hearts, livers and gall bladders, in various levels of disease. Next, Dr. Windsor examined the nerves linking the unhealthy organs with the vertebrae of the spine.</p>
<p>The discovery by Dr. Windsor was tremendous! In each of the cadavers, there was a misalignment of the curvature in the spine, which was directly connected to the nerves leading to the diseased organs.</p>
<p>In essence, this is what takes place in the body:</p>
<p>(1)	The spinal bones shift and move out of place, causing the spine to become misaligned</p>
<p>(2)	This causes nerve irritation</p>
<p>(3)	The nerve irritation causes decreased blood flow to the organs</p>
<p>(4)	The reduced blood flow brings about disease in the internal organs</p>

<p>Not only is there a direct link between vertebral misalignment and disease of the organs, but the illness seems to come before old age and even to produce it! Initially the spinal cord becomes rigid, reducing the blood flow to the vital organs, and the feelings of old age in the body follow.</p>

Also commonly known by its Latin name as <i>&#8220;Ganoderma,&#8221;</i> or Chinese &#8220;Ling Zhi,&#8221; Reishi is by far the most searched medicinal mushroom on the Internet with over 200,000 searches per month. And although it may not be the panacea (&#8221;cure-all&#8221;) that some hold it to be, the fact that modern research confirms it as an inflammation modulator may help explain why it has long been heralded as such in the Orient.</p>
<p>In fact, Chinese medical practitioners have been prescribing Reishi extract for ages in cases of arthritis, bronchitis and other conditions involving any type of inflammation. Modern research in Asia as well as in America and Europe confirm the validity of these uses. Out of 19 papers used for this article, 17 reported positive results in the use or Reishi extract for arthritis. Only two were studies were inconclusive, both of which were conducted by the same research team. (1,2)</p>
<p>An American study conducted in 1993 by Lin et al. concluded that a water extract of <i>Ganoderma lucidum</i> (Reishi) demonstrated &#8220;significant anti-inflammatory activity.&#8221; (4) A study out of India ten years later found that an extract of Reishi decreased inflammation in conditions of acute edema and chronic edema by 56% and 60%. (3) Seven additional research papers were found during the writing of this article that all concluded that Reishi is a potent anti-inflammatory medicinal mushroom. (5,6,7,8,9,10,11)</p>
<p>Next we&#8217;ll be looking at some studies that more directly relate to the use of Reishi extract with arthritis. A paper published in 2006 by Blum et al. claimed to provide supporting clinical evidence demonstrating that use of Reishi extract for joint health was both safe and effective. (12)</p>
<p>Also that same year, a Chinese study by Xi Bao et al. came to the conclusion that Reishi plus another medicinal herbal remedy commonly used in China seemed to have a &#8220;beneficial immunomodulatory effect&#8221; on arthritis. (13)</p>
<p>The mechanism through which Reishi achieves this beneficial effect on arthritis was suggested in a study the following year, 2007, by Ho et al., which states that GL-PP [<i>Ganoderma lucidum</i> polysaccharide peptide] significantly inhibited the proliferation of RASF [Rheumatoid Arthritis Synovial Fibroblasts] (14)</p>
<p>Five additional studies are included in the references that report positive findings between Reishi and arthritis. (15,16,17) One goes so far as to state that Reishi shows favorable results when compared to prednisone, and is free from the side effects. (18) In extension of this, a separate study also found that not only was Reishi extract free of the side effects of prednisone, it could also help balance the existing side effects of prednisolone* such as cell toxicity and proteinuria. (*Prednisolone is the active compound of prednisone. The liver breaks down prednisone and converts it to prednisolone.) (19)</p>
<p><b>In conclusion, the majority of research on the use of Reishi extract for inflammation or arthritis appears to support its effectiveness. Please remember that it is very important to always consult a licensed medical doctor before using any herb for medicinal purposes.</b></p>
<p>Note on name confusion: The name &#8220;Reishi&#8221; is Japanese for the perennial tree mushroom that American naturalists refer to as &#8220;Varnished Conk.&#8221; In China, it is known as &#8220;Ling Zhi.&#8221; All these names usually refer to the species <i>Ganoderma lucidum</i>, which for the sake of distinction from other types of Reishi may sometimes be called &#8220;Common Reishi&#8221; or &#8220;Red Reishi.&#8221;</p>
<p>Several closely related species of <i>Ganoderma</i> also go by the name of &#8220;Reishi&#8221;. Most common of these are the Hemlock Reishi (<i>Ganoderma tsugae</i>) found on Hemlocks in the Appalachian Mountains, and the Chinese species &#8220;Black Reishi&#8221; (<i>Ganoderma sinense</i>). Less common are <i>Ganoderma resinaceum</i> (sometimes called &#8220;Red Reishi,&#8221; although that name is more often used for <i>G. lucidum</i>), <i>Ganoderma neo-japonicum</i> (no common name other than &#8220;Reishi&#8221;), and <i>Ganoderma japonicum</i> (Purple Reishi).</p>

<p>So here are some tips for preventing knee pain when losing weight:</p>
<p>1. Don&#8217;t let your hamstrings become rigid: It&#8217;s critical that your hamstrings remain flexible for optimal health here. If you let them stay chronically tight, they can cause knee pain. And prevention here is far better than curing the tightness once knee pain sets in.</p>
<p>2. Keep your front thighs very strong: Strong front thighs are a great way to maintain knee stability. So make sure you strengthen them as much as possible. As always, however, never sacrifice form for extra repetitions or extra weight.</p>
<p>3. Lose weight: This is a catch 22, but as you lose more and more weight, your knees will bear less and less pressure. This is good news and should be motivating since losing weight is much more than just about looking good, it also lengthens the life of your joints.</p>

<p>Thus, without further delay, here is how to ensure that lower back pain doesn&#8217;t prevent you from getting in shape:</p>
<p>1. Support your lower back all the time: The easiest way to do this is to simply purchase lower back supports and install them in every single thing that you sit in. They are extremely cheap and will support your lower back with no effort on your part.</p>
<p>2. Avoid early morning back flexion: In other words, do not bend over or flex your lower back at any point in the early morning. During this time period, your lower back has more fluid in its discs than usual, so you want to avoid movement for at least an hour.</p>
<p>3. Stabilize your lower back before getting your six pack: If you only focus on major abdominal movers, you will compromise your lower back health. However, if you focus on stabilization first, you will make your lower back very healthy.</p>
<p>4. Do not work through pain: If you have lower back pain and doing crunches aggravates it, stop immediately. Crunches, or any other type of abdominal movement, are not necessarily good for your back. And if they cause pain, they can increase damage.</p>
<p>5. Don&#8217;t pick things up with just your lower back: Instead, use your free hand to latch onto something and then use it to lift your body up. This will take your lower back out of the equation when lifting heavy things, a critical ingredient for lower back relief.</p>
<p>6. Do not rely on chiropractors: Adjustments and realignments are great for temporary relief. But for lasting relief, you need to remove all aggravators and strengthen stabilizers. This is the best approach for getting rid of back pain for good.</p>

<p>Thus, here is a guide to joint health when losing weight:</p>
<p>1. Don&#8217;t overdo the bench press: Not only can it cause extreme impingement of your rotator cuff, but it can also destroy your ac joint. If you have a slouched posture (like the majority of desk workers), this is even more of an issue. So use the bench press is moderation.</p>
<p>2. Strengthen all the muscles in your legs equally: If you only focus on quads, your patella won&#8217;t move correctly. If you only focus on hamstrings, your patella won&#8217;t move correctly. If you neglect the inside part of your thighs, your patella won&#8217;t move correctly.</p>
<p>3. Make all the muscles in your legs flexible: Most people simply focus on their IT band or hamstrings. However, you should strive to also work on all the other muscles in your legs as well. If you don&#8217;t, your knee cap might get out of alignment. And over time, this can destroy cartilage.</p>
<p>4. Never keep on going if you feel pain in a joint: You see, once a joint becomes injured, it takes a very long time to heal. This happens because joints have very poor blood supplies, unlike muscles. So if it hurts, stop all aggravating and potentially aggravating activity immediately.</p>
<p>5. Never let your back round out: Now when I say never, I mean never. You want to avoid lower back rounding in the gym, in your car, in your daily life, etc. Doing this will keep your back healthy for many years to come. And keep in mind that back pain is one of the top complaints in the western world.</p>
<p>Since joint deterioration happens slowly over time, most people completely ignore it when structuring their exercise programs. So make sure you don&#8217;t make this same mistake and enjoy a lifetime of exercise health.</p>

You could depend on the opinion of a friend or colleague for your choice but with the diverse and ever changing technology within the marketplace, how do you know if you are arriving at the right decision? </p>
<p>Many Types of Saunas with So Many Differences!<br />
Essentially, we can divide home saunas into two main classes:  the traditional style that features a heating element with &#8220;hot lava rocks&#8221; and the &#8220;newer&#8221; type which features infrared technology. Traditional (old) style saunas are adequate for shorter sessions but unfortunately, the traditional sauna lacks many of the health and wellness benefits that one could receive from using an infrared sauna.</p>
<p>A disadvantage that traditional saunas present is that their temperatures must reach upper heat levels (150-180 degrees) in order for the body to actually start sweating. This temperature is way too high to safely manage, for any extended length of time, especially if a person has cardiovascular disease or hypertension.  Physicians agree that anything longer than 20 minutes at those high temperatures could have a detrimental effect upon your health. In fact, it could actually be putting excessive strain on your heart as your body attempts to counter the effects of the high heat.</p>
<p>Infrared saunas have a totally unique way of &#8220;heating up the body&#8221;. The heat rendered from infrared saunas permeates the body much deeper (up to 1 3/4 inches compared to the traditional sauna, which only penetrates approximately 1/8 of an inch). Because of this greater heat permeation, your body can create a healthful detoxifying sweat at a much lower sauna temperature&#8211;about 120 degrees.  Thus, with lower heat, you have greater safety and tremendous added health benefits.</p>
<p>Many doctors are beginning to add infrared sauna therapy into their patient&#8217;s treatment programs. These include those with inflammation, necessitated weight loss, cholesterol control, and blood pressure control! An additional impressive advantage of infrared therapy is that the deep penetrating heat is able to allow detoxifying effects on the body. The infrared heat aids the body by drawing out toxins deep below the skin and exfoliating them through the skin. Since we are exposed to several toxins on a daily basis, infrared therapy can assist in secreting these toxins fortifying our immune system and improving our health and well being.</p>
<p>Are All Infrared Saunas Alike?<br />
There are essentially two types of infrared saunas that are currently in the market place today. The differences are based upon by the type of heaters used-ceramic vs. carbon based. In the past, ceramic heaters were the industry standard, but as the technology evolved, carbon based heaters were introduced and now are the industry&#8217;s gold standard for infrared sauna therapy.</p>
<p>Ceramic based heaters in infrared saunas are less effective than carbon based heaters. This is because the ceramic rods can only make a limited amount of heat and must work at very high temperatures.  This produces a spotty dispersion of the heat, creating &#8220;hot spots&#8221; (which could burn the user!) and &#8220;cold spots&#8221;, where there is no heat at all! </p>
<p>Carbon based technology will bring forth an even and uniform heat throughout the sauna and not have the uneven distribution of heat that you get with ceramic heaters. In comparing, a typical two person ceramic infrared sauna, the rods produce approximately 56 square inches of infrared heat, whereas the carbon based infrared saunas produce approximately 572 square inches of heat, in the equivalent size sauna!  The research advises that the entire body should be surrounded by the infrared heat to have the best chance to absorb as many rays as possible in order to optimize the health benefits of the therapy.  </p>
<p>Is An Infrared Sauna Safe?<br />
As stated above, the medical profession has recognized and attested the numerous benefits of infrared saunas. Infrared therapy and treatment includes: detoxification of the body, weight loss and burning extra calories, blood pressure control, pain easement, diminishing inflammation, alleviating fibromyalgia symptoms and improvements in overall health and well being. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Whole Body Vibration (WBV) exercise is becoming more of a popular method of fitness training among the beginner exercisers, competitive and pro athletes. Not only can vibration training stress your muscles in ways that typical training cannot, but also using a vibration machine has many documented health and wellness benefits too. </p>
<p>As more and more of these WBV companies appear on the market, most giving conflicting information, it becomes extremely difficult for the lay consumer to know what claims to believe. </p>
<p>Essentially, whole body vibration equipment can move in three planes. This is dependent upon specific manufacturers.  Some manufacturers only make lineal (vertical) vibration technology while others use a combination of lineal only, pivotal (oscillating, teeter-totter) or a third type called 3D or tri-planar. </p>
<p>A pivotal vibration plate vibrates from a center axis in a see-saw or teeter-totter like action (called frontal plane X-axis). A vertical vibration plate vibrates straight up and down (called vertical plane Z-axis). Both machines have proven benefits, and there is very little, if any, evidence to suggest one method is better than the other. Some, but not many manufacturers have WBV machines that move in three planes by adding a front to back motion (sagital plane Y-axis)</p>

<p>Tri-Planar (3D) Platform Y-axis</p>
<p>Most WBV platform types can have 2 variables that can be adjusted to produce different vibratory effects. The two variables of a vibration platform are,</p>
<p>1. Amplitude (vertical displacement)<br />
2. Frequency (platform speed)</p>
<p>By adjusting either of these two variables we also change things such as, the number of times per second our muscles contract, the amount G force exerted on our body, the degree of difficulty in stabilizing, the flow of blood through our body etc. Research tells us that different frequencies will have different effects on our body. Depending on what effects you are hoping to benefit from, will determine what frequency you should use your machine at.</p>
<p>It is also important to understand the recommended, researched, and safe variables when using each type of vibration platform. For pivotal vibration the frequency range should be between 1 and 30Hz, the amplitude range should be no greater than 6.5mm (13mm maximum displacement). For vertical vibration the frequency range should be between 25 and 50Hz, the amplitude range should be no greater than 3mm (6mm maximum displacement).</p>
<p>Most research studies suggest that using a vibration platform at higher frequencies is more beneficial for increasing muscle and strength. Therefore if is this one of the benefits you are looking for, it is important your machine can produce these higher frequencies. The research also suggests that the higher range of frequencies have far more benefits than the lower frequency range.</p>
